'AT THE CROSS'
by Linda Pope
1.As I stand at the cross and look at you,
The person who made me and knew me before,
My mum and dad had thought of me,
I see love in your eyes.

2.As I stand at the cross and look at you,
The creator of the world,
I see someone willing to die for me
Even though I said “Crucify”.

3.As I stand at the cross and look at you,
With spittle running down your face,
I see my lies, my shame, my life of sin
Upon your shoulders laid.

4.As I stand at the cross and look at you,
With the weight of all my sin,
You cry out “Father forgive them”
Was that for all my sin?

5.As I stand at the cross and look at you,
You bow your head and die,
The weight of my sin is bad enough
But you’re carrying more than mine.

6.As I stand at the cross and look for you,
You are no longer there,
Loving hands have taken you down,
And laid you in the dark somewhere.

7.As I stand at the tomb and look for you,
My Father and my King,
The angels say you have risen again
On this first Easter Day.

8.As I stand at the tomb and look for you,
I hear you call my name,
I turn and look you are standing there
With your arms open wide.

9.As I stand at the tomb and look at you,
You’re shining like the stars
You smile and say “I’ve given myself for you
Won’t you give yourself away?”

10.The Father freely gave His Son,
The Son gave up His life,
The Holy Spirit wants to work in us
So that we may have abundant life.
